Business Categories

Creating Business Categories provides additional filtering options for reporting.

Clients assigned to a business category can be filtered within different sections of the dashboard to better observe performance and trends within each industry and how each module has added to their success. 

Assigning a Business Category to a Company

  1. Log in to the Dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to and click the Company drop-down menu on the side menu, then select the company to be modified.
  3. Scroll down to and click on the Company tab, then click Settings.
  4. The Company Setings screen opens.
  5. Scroll down to the Business Category drop-down.
  6. Select the industry or business category from the pre-defined drop-down.
  7. Click the "Save" button on the bottom right of the page.
Note: If the business category has not been created, follow the steps below in the How to Create and Manage Business Categories section.



To save time, assign new clients to your pre-defined business categories during company or account creation. To do so, review the Company Settings article.

Create and Manage Business Categories

  1. Log in to the Dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to and click the Settings tab on the side menu, then click Business Categories.
  3. The Business Categories screen opens.
  4. Add a new Business Category by clicking the "Create Category" button or modify a current category by clicking the category record.
  5. Add a new category:
    1. The Business Category Details form opens. 
    2. Enter the name of the category or industry then click the "Save changes" button.
    3. The new business category can now be applied to companies in the Edit Company Details section of each company.
  6. Modify a category:
    1. Click on the category record.
    2. The Business Category screen opens.
    3. Click the "Edit" button to make changes to the category.
      1. Name: Changing the Business Category name will change the Business Category for each company currently assigned to the Business Category. 
      2. Delete: This removes the Business Category from the available options and the Business Category will no longer be assigned to any associated companies.
    4. Click Save.

Filter Companies by Business Category

After logging into the dashboard, clients and customers can be filtered using the Business Category drop-down found in Advanced or More Filters. Filtering clients and customers by industry or business type can provide further insight into the performance and trends associated with each industry and how each module has added to the success of clients within the industry.
